Each of these provides high-speed access into and out of the archive for larger networked operations. Identical software is installed on each node in the cluster which allows any machine to perform any task as the system grows. In the event of a server loss, or during maintenance periods, the workload is automatically managed by another node in the cluster. The SQL database at the centre of the archive is protected by the Microsoft clustering software, designed to provide instant failover in the event of a hardware fault.
